Just a rant about human nature....
I was on Kijiji (I think its a Canadian thing, its similar to Craigslist but much better with not as much scams). But anyways I clicked off with a pissed of feeling in my stomach and the general attitude of fuck people and the greed we all have pretty much aquired over the last decade.
Here's my story I will try to keep it short. My fondest memories of being young was tinkering with junk. If it got to complex my dad would have to step in, that guy could and did fix anything and it always ran better than before. When I was...? lets just say a little bastard I was at a farm auction and had my eye on this old Ski-doo. It was a 1969 TNT440, long story short I didn't even had a bidding number and no one was even interested in it and I got it for a crumpled up $5 bill,it was a small town the auctioneer knew me needless to say no burger at the sale... that was my spending cash at that age. I had all summer to get it ready, I popped the one head off and found a mouse nest so every day I gave it a shot of diesel until it loosened and turned over. The seat was ripped but rest was good shape. To this day almost 20 some years later I still have the running motor in my garage but the chassis and track died a long time ago.The motor has been shoe-horned into all kinds of chassis and still lives.
Well I inherited my dads old Massey Ski-Whiz 444 a couple years ago. This was his sled I was never ever allowed to drive on my own...which was a good thing looking back I never let off the throttle. The old Ski Whiz is showroom, I don't mean redneck showroom...every bolt and fastener is still factory an attestment to taking care of the things you own.
Where am I going with this? I was on the classifieds looking for an old beater to fix up a bit and was pissed to see people wanting $800-1500 for beat up 30 year old shit with trees growing through it and I just shook my head. Are people so out of touch with reality to know what a dollar is worth? Then I thought about some people I know on the verge of divorce and bankruptcy who's monthly payment on one vehicle was the purchase price of my Ford Explorer i've been driving for three years now. Yes it doesn't have the bling factor but it puts 10 times the mileage per year than theirs does. I think it boils down to greed. We can blame the economy downfall as a partial factor but when you see a 23 year old that moved out of his parents house already racking up $325,000 for a vehicle and a house (I live in Alberta, where almost everyone is sucking on the big oily dick called Fort McMurray to support their insecurities) $325k is a very modest number for a home let alone the lifted $60k+ Superduty Ford that is a must and is basically used for the commute to the work camp and parked beside the rest that all look the same. The point is I hate hearing people bitch about the economy and home foreclosures....blah blah etc...when their own greed has forced them to spend beyond their means. People need to come back to reality and sell me a fucking shit sled for what it is actually worth to them...fuck all.

You have made your point well.... You can thank the BS on the Internet for posting false values to crap that should be given away in most cases... I too grew up fixing junk and making something from nothing.. That is the way it was back then.. Also I didn't have any money when I was a little shit but I worked on farms and mowed lawns and saved for what I wanted... That was what I spent and I was careful to spend it wisely cause I earned every penny... my parents were not rich by any means so I never "borrowed" from them... Here lies the problem... Nobody understands the difference between wants and needs... Seems with credit still going strong and from what I have seen nobody has cut back on spending frivolously we are doomed to keep repeating the economic disasters we have witnessed in the last decade...

I'm an Albertan also, never been good with money, spend within my means but save nothing, lol. I've bought a number of things off eBay and Kijiji over the years and am sickened by the garbage people pass-off as new. If it doesn't work say it in the add and -pretty well give it away to someone who might make use of it or just throw it out...I used to fix things in my younger days but I don't even know what I'm seeing under the hood of my car anymore...in my trade we used to call it "troubleshooting" now we call it "part changer".................Have you seen "Too Big To Fail"?......it seems if we stop buying the latest suv or 3D tv and cell phones the economy will only crash that much quicker and the gov't will have to make the burden greater on the average joe in order to prop up major companys.....it all has to crash and burn and next time around we need to limit the size of any company...including the size of gov'ts,lol....then companies won't need to produce crappy product with a short lifespan so you will buy next year's crap to replace it or pay to fix it....it's not good for the economy if everything comes from my wallet!
