The last few months I have seen lots of folks (mostly noobs) getting in trouble for things that can be avoided. Here is some tips from someone who has made all the mistakes in the beginning.
1) Never Touch Any Cables Without Shutting Off The Reciever:
I am not reffering to the remote or the reciever front switch. Use the main switch on the back. If your reciever does not have a main power switch unplug. You can fry your reciever, switch, LNB or even all.
2) Double and triple check the file you intend on loading:
Make sure you have the right file. You can possibly fry your reciever with the wrong one. Files are for the most part model specific.
3) Write down your total setup:
First thing when you get your reciever working . You would not believe how many folks forget how they setup the LNB's and after uploading into their reciever or factory reset they find the setup defaulted.
4) Do Not Panic:
IF there is a problem with a file you installed do not start grabbing any file to repair your reciever. Sometimes it is a known issue and has a simple workaround.
Remember the software you are loading directly manipulates the recievers bios and setup. There is always a chance of killing it with an upgrade. We do not have control on how the new updates effect your reciever. No matter how good the updates are written there is always some reciever that get screwed up. Example: I have 3 Recievers bought together with Consecutive Serial Numbers. Even though I have loaded them with exactly the same software exactly the same way there has been a few times one and once two units stopped working. I had to clone (copy) a working one to the bad ones. They are all still working.
