UFC 97 - Cheick Kongo vs Antoni Hardonk revealed
In a clash of European heavyweights, Dutchman Antoni Hardonk will take on Wolfslair sensation, Cheick Kongo at UFC 97 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on April 18th.
Sources in the Netherlands revealed to Fighters Only Magazine today that bout agreements have already been signed for the fight. MMABay was aware of this fight a number of weeks back but was unable to reveal it due to promises made.
Kongo was originally linked with former UFC interim heavyweight champion, Antono Rodrigo Nogueira, but the Brazilians camp denied it and a fight with Hardonk was secured instead for the Frenchman.
Kongo must be close to a title shot after winning for of his last five fights. After joining the UK Wolfslair team, Kongo has looked even more impressive, crushing Mustapha Al-Turk in round one at UFC 92 in December.
Hardonk himself has put together an impressive run of late, winning three straight after struggling early on in his UFC career.
This one should be a war, with both men possessing tremendous stand-up skills. On top of that Kongo has much improved wrestling while Hardonk has improved his game off his back, turning this into an interesting affair wherever the fight ends up.
