Here in Manitoba there is a native group demanding that the government cannot enforce provincial no smoking laws on Reserve land as it falls under federal juristiction. This has to do with a casino they want to open up.


I can see the whole picture here. - The natives will be allowed their right to sit and smoke in front of their VLT's after a hard fought battle.

Now fast forward 10 years and you will see them come back to the government with claims the government knowingly and maliciously allowed them to poison themselves with tobacco - while enacting laws to protect Whitey from those same inflictions.
I can hear the war cry of racism already.
Expect another big settlement request for this one too

man - just can't win for losing.

The casino not far from us is the same....opened about a year or so ago...have never been there...

I've been following this dispute too PB67. You are correct that the Reserves fall under Federal jurisdiction, but gambling falls under Provincial jurisdiction. The Province says they can smoke all they want, but they won't get and VLT machines. :)
Looks like the fight is on and you can guess who's going to foot the bill for all this legal wrangling, huh?
