Im not a moderator or admin but thought this might be a good place to ask a question.

Anybody here ever been booted from ftaconcept.com?

I was recently booted because I dared to ask the admin there why he had a problem with me listing freesatfix.com on their web page. I guess this pissed him off. The thread in particular was trashing an unnamed FTA web page. I asked which page they were referring too and was ignored and then booted. I hazard to guess they were trashing your web page because you do not charge money for bin downloads and they do.

The irony is that their own forum rules stated that FTA related hobby links are OK. And mind you that I did not hotlink any files, just www.freesatfix.com.

My only guess is that they charge for file download there under the guise of what they call "VIP access".

The irony is that any idiot can type in "FTA" in a search engine and find both thier site and this site.

Forgive me for ranting but it was just dumb of them to segregate themselves. I told them that all FTA sites are welcome to newcomers like me and there is no such thing as too much information.

I did manage to re-register with the same user name there and asked why I was booted and my posting deleted so my guess is that they will probably bann me now. Oh well.

Sorry for ranting here but I had to get that off my chest. I was hoping somebody here could give me some kind of understanding why they are acting so childish over there. Can't figure them out now.

There are lots of sites that not only feed their egoes at the expense of the members but also seem to get a thrill out of fucking with folks who have been duped into believing that those sites are the only way to go. I have belonged to tons of sites over the years as a regular member and as a mod and I can honestly tell you this site is a one of a kind. THe word is out about here and I think jelousy has a lot to do with it. Those same sites will log in here and promote their site though. The funny thing is we don't care cause if any members go and check them out it just makes us look better. This is a member run site. Members helping members and the admin even asked today how the members feel about a name change. Show me another site that cares about the members thoughts on the way the site should be run. Well you are very welcome here and rant all you want. We should make a "Rant Room" just for the ranting. Would be a busy section....

all i can tell you is that i've seen a lot of shitty attitudes by mods and seniors on a couple fta sites
they even bash their members when asking simple Q's
this is my #1 site now and will never leave as long as it doesn't turn into one of those sites

1.) If the owners of the site used a credit card processor, it would really be no different than paypal except that the owners would actually have your credit card numbers, and it would just be forwarded on to your CC company, so as bad as pay pal can be it is insured and has a point of contact in case of fraud.

2.) The Re-Occuring is not a problem, as soon as you make your first payment, go to your pay pal and cancel the subscription.

Probably happens a lot.... and it's gunna sound naive but it's depressing to see all those people on other sites paying for stuff that is free (and getting abused while they're doing it) :mad: PB mentioned a few pages back, and he's right, they have no one to blame but themselves cuz it's so easy these days to do your own research. There are a lot of sites who like to keep their members in a bubble. I guess that is one way to keep members. I think the USSR used a similiar method (the iron curtain) to keep their citizens from wanting to leave.

I have read every single post on this thread... and I must say.. I had a pretty good chuckle.. about most of the posts....Though I really don't post here, I have been a member for awhile...

I am a smod at the site that is getting all of this attention... I understand your views on having to pay to get what you can get for free at 1000's of sites.... I can tell you what I know(which is not much,lol).... and that is.. not only does the paying members get chances to win receivers... from time to time.. they also offer free receivers to non paying members as well... they also provide receivers for the staff to test and learn how to use... which I think is a very good thing to do.. All of that along with a more secure, offshore site.. and larger bandwidth.. is paid for.. by the very small percent of members who decide to contribute to the site.. but all members, contributors or not.. are all treated the same.. and always welcome, and will get the same great support, from the staff and members themselves... regardless if they have donated or not.
I have no idea, why any member from this site, was banned from our site.. I have read brief comments about Gonzox being banned prematurely... for trying to post a live link....and it should have been a warning, not a ban... jmo... myself.. had I seen the post.. I would have just changed the address from http to hxxp.... because we do not allow live links to other sites... with very few excpetions such as lyngsat.com , I always remove the www if that is posted on the address as well.... live links to other sites, only leads to problems, especially with site sponsors... when the other site, has different sponsors...
I have never banned a member, at any of the sites, that I am a member or a mod at.... I have only given one person a vacation... and they really pushed enough buttons to even get my attention....and I am the easist going mod you have seen, and that was only a 3 day vacation... to give them time to read the rules... Whenever I see a post in the wrong place... I send the member a pm, and tell them as nicely as I can, something to this effect, I know you were anxious to get an answer to your problem, but it is not nice to hijack another members thread.. and that I have moved your post to this location.. no biggie.. but please start your own threads, in the appropriate discussion area....and I include, the new address of their post... so they can go to it... I see a lot of members here are not fond of rules... and that is fine.... this is your site.. you should run it as you see fit.... just as we do at our site..... now this is of course biased.. lol but we have one of the friendliest and most helpful sites around... we do our best to try and keep any member from being put down.. newbie or old timer.. but as with any site.. you can not catch every single comment made... we all do have lives to live.. outside of fta.... I hope we all do anyway... lol

I have never downloaded a file from this site.. to post on ours, or any other site, I mod at.. but I am sure you would not object if I did.... I hope not... anyway... I actually go to the homesite of coders to get files, I am kinda of old fashioned in that... We need to clear some things up. Nobody there has had a chance to see my side of the story. We need to clear up some facts. My banning has nothing to do with VIP membership at all. But since my posting have been erased, I can't very well defend myself based on vaporware. Let me explain.

Fact 1) I was not banned for linking a file. I was warned about one week ago when I went into the pansat forum and advised the members there looking for a new bin that www.freesatfix.com had the latest bin number xxx. At that point I was only warned. And mind you that it was not a binary forum, somebody simply suggested that's what happened, not that it was a fact. They were speculating.

Fact 2) After getting the warning I appoligized. I then looked at the forum rules at ftaconcept, confirming that FTA hobby related links were fine as long as they benefited the hobby as a whole. So the warning was not warrented.

Fact 3) A week or so after that I saw the post dissing another FTA forum and checked it out. I then posted a question there why they felt the need to bash other sites. I then asked why it was that I could not post freesat fix's web page there since it is technically OK according to their own forum rules. THIS IS WHY I GOT KICKED.

Fact 4) I did not get permanently banned from there until an ftaconcept lurker here decided to come here and read what I posted.

Fact 5) Nobody at ftaconept has stated the real reason for banning me. I did not post in a bin group and my last post was On Topic with the thread material AFAIAC. This should be a red flag for you. But again, since my posting was deleted 2 seconds after posting it, I have no proof.

The only real error that I did was hijack a thread but I do not see it that way as my post was in direct relation to the thread started there relating to bashing other fta sites and just being hatefull against competition.

Are we not all one community? Why delete posts there when no rules are broken?

BTW, I am in Central TX and have family in Houston and Corpus Christi as well. Drive safe. This is why I left the coast for the hill country.

All I can add is (and this is how I really see it) I can't answer for other forums actions and if you were asking questions that were not covered in the rules then it should have been handled there and a PM with an explaination would have been in line to say the least. The sites I have modded for elsewhere had a list of rules and when in rome do as the romans. If you join a site you got to abide by the rules. Even though we only have technically 2 rules here they are still rules to be followed. I know you all are enjoying the banter back and forth over the thread but I just want to point out you would not see this thread at other sites..... We are proud of what we built here as you are of yours.

When FTADream was still up I used to have a ball there hearing about what is going on behind the scenes at total and hash. The admins and mods there were some of the original staff at both. They got run out when both sites cracked down on members. One thing that used to go on was they all passed family pics around amonst the staff. saw was an original disgruntal mod at total and gave me a pic of warthog. I took his head and put it on pic of johnny knoxville in hte jackass movie where he is made up to be an old man with wrinkled old balls..... It was hillarious.... I still got it on one of my online server accounts..... Will have to find it...
