Welcome icpjld to FSF. You need not post the same question twice. As for an answer.....
Yes you can use the dish but not the LNB. You cannot get Directv on an FTA Reciever. You will need a different LNB and a Reciever. Depending on what you plan on watching I suggest a universal LNB which are available in many locations. They run from $16 to over $100. You cannot use the same dish for Directv and FTA. We are talking totally different sats. I would suggest run your contract out then mount the right LNB on the dish and point it at the sats you wish to view and with an FTA box and a few files you will be all set.

Viewsat works well for the newbie. Plus, there's a lot of written setup documentation here on the site for you to peruse.

i like sonicview have had 2 1000 and now just got a 4000 user friendly, you can get a sv1000 for less than 100 and an sv4000 for around 150 as far as the dish you can use your dtv dish but will only be able to get one sat like 119 or 110. i would get a dn dish/500 they cost around 50 but can find them all over look at a yard sale you might get it for free and you are all set oh one more thing i would get a cheap sat finder it saves you time and is cheap about 15 on ebay good luck and enjoy the hobby fta is fun.
