Hello I am trying to set up viewsat "extreme". When I run Loader2.exe the program executes but the message "com port open failed" shows up. Anybody have any solutions?

The serial cable supplied with viewsat.

This problem is before the cable. That error comes up when you have a port conflict in windows. Check in the device manager and see if you have com port 1 open or is it used by something else like a mouse or modem. Next try checking to see if you can cofigure the loader for another com port. The best thing to do is let me know what make and model of PC you are using.

Maybe we can figure this out.

HI long time reader first time writer, Ihave spent hours at a time trying to get bin files, channels, ect into my box,but i figured out my computer was to fast or newer computers are not really set up to well for the old serial ports. So i keep a old computer on hand like a 233 pentium or 400 series pentium even with win xp on them.I BURN MY LOADER ON TO A CD AND MY FILES TAKE THEM TO THE OLD COMPUTER AND THEY LOAD EVERY TIME! NO COM PORT ERRORS OLDER LAPTOPS WORK WELL TOO!

Hi Megabyte, good to have you on the site.

Concerning serial ports, they work equally well on older computers as they do on newer computers. The transmission rate on serial ports is very slow and older systems have absolutely no problem keeping up with them. If you're having a problem with the serial connections on your newer computer, the problem isn't because your computer is new.

thanks thats was kind of the point i was making if you have trouble with serial port errors.try using a slower computer because they have no problems keeping up.It just that new computers are more set up for usb,usb2.0,firewire ect. It was easier for me to load bin files into my fta box by way of my older computer instead of doing alot of set up and i use this older computer just for Sat fixes and i see so many new people on different sites having the same problems with serial ports.I still dont know a lot about this stuff but ive had some quality tv for alot of years just by reading the fourms. So everybody that helps out here thanks alot and its a great site.NOW IF WE COULD ALL WORK ON GETTING FREE GAS!

Newer and faster computers aren't inherently less capable of operating low speed serial ports. The real pain in the ass concerning new computers and serial ports is that a lot of new computers that are CHEAP, don't HAVE any serial ports anymore.

:)
